DR MICHAELA BEETGE
Dr Mia-Michaela Beetge is a Specialist in Oral Medicine and Periodontics and serves as the Head Clinical Unit in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (cum laude) from the University of Pretoria in 2008, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry (cum laude) in 2011 and a Master’s degree in Oral Medicine and Periodontics (cum laude) in 2015. She also completed a two-year SAFRI (FAIMER) fellowship and earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education and Leadership (cum laude).
Dr Beetge combines clinical practice with academic teaching and research, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students while contributing to the advancement of Oral Medicine and Periodontics in South Africa. She has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed scientific publications, with research focusing on oral pathology, periodontal disease, implant dentistry and anatomical considerations for dental implant treatment. She regularly presents her research at national and international scientific meetings.
Her professional interests include periodontology, implant dentistry, oral medicine, patient education and clinical teaching. Through her work at the University of Pretoria and her involvement in continuing professional development initiatives, Dr Beetge is committed to advancing evidence-based dentistry and improving oral healthcare through education, research and multidisciplinary collaboration.
