DR THEESAN VEDEN
Dr Theesan Vedan is a Specialist Periodontist and Implantologist based in South Africa. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BChD) before obtaining a Master of Dentistry (MChD) in Periodontics and Oral Medicine. As a specialist clinician, his professional interests include periodontology, dental implantology, peri-implant diseases, periodontal regeneration and evidence-based patient care.
During this SASPIO Professional Development Webinar, Dr Vedan presented “Peri-Implantitis: Unveiling the Silent Threat to Dental Implants – Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment.” The lecture explored the latest understanding of peri-implantitis, including its aetiology, risk factors and the important clinical differences between peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Attendees gained practical insight into recognising the early signs of peri-implant disease and implementing effective prevention and early intervention strategies.
The webinar also reviewed current evidence-based treatment protocols, ranging from non-surgical therapies to advanced surgical techniques used in the management of peri-implant disease. By combining clinical research with practical treatment approaches, Dr Vedan provided delegates with valuable knowledge to improve long-term implant success and enhance patient care in everyday dental practice.
