Dr Jeanine Fourie is a Specialist in Oral Medicine and Periodontics at the University of Pretoria, where she serves in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine. She obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BChD) in 2002 and later completed postgraduate diplomas in Periodontology and Restorative Dentistry, a Master of Science in Odontology, and a Master of Dentistry (MChD) in Oral Medicine and Periodontics, graduating cum laude. In this SASPIO Professional Development Webinar, “The 10 Most Common Oral Lesions Encountered in Daily Practice,” Dr Fourie guided delegates through the recognition, diagnosis and clinical management of the oral lesions most frequently encountered by dental practitioners. The webinar highlighted the importance of distinguishing between benign, reactive, infectious and potentially malignant lesions, while emphasising the value of early detection, appropriate investigation and timely referral where necessary. Drawing on her extensive experience in Oral Medicine, Dr Fourie provided practical, evidence-based guidance to help clinicians improve diagnostic confidence and enhance patient outcomes in everyday practice.

Dr Fourie’s research focuses on Oral Medicine, oral mucosal diseases, potentially malignant disorders and the oral manifestations of systemic disease. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, contributing to the advancement of Oral Medicine and evidence-based dentistry in South Africa.
